Custom crate for a machine: what to describe in your quote request

Updated: · Aurelia OÜ

A quote request for a machine crate needs 8 data points: dimensions, weight, centre of gravity, lifting points, fixing points, transport mode, destination country and quantity. With these in the request we can quote without follow-up questions, and the crate fits the first time.

1. Dimensions

Give the largest outer dimensions of the machine (length × width × height), including protruding parts: handles, cables, control panels. The inner size of the crate is chosen from these with a small allowance.

2. Weight

The net weight and, if possible, the weight with accessories. The crate base is calculated from this. In the configurator you see straight away whether the base's load capacity is enough.

3. Centre of gravity

If the machine's weight is not in the middle, mark it on the drawing. An uneven load needs a stronger base on one side and a centre-of-gravity mark on the side of the crate.

4. Lifting points

Will the crate be lifted by forklift, crane or both? Lifting by crane needs marked lifting points and a reinforced base.

5. Fixing

How is the machine fixed to the base of the crate: bolts through its feet, straps or wedges? Attach a drawing or photo of the fixing points.

6. Transport mode

Truck, ship, container or air. For sea freight, mention moisture protection and the inner dimensions of the container.

7. Destination country

A crate going outside the European Union usually needs ISPM15 marking. See also the guide on ISPM15.

8. Quantity and frequency

A one-off crate or a recurring order? For recurring orders we store the specification and every batch is the same.
