EUR-size vs FIN pallet: dimensions, load capacity and use
Updated: · Aurelia OÜ
A EUR-size pallet measures 1200 × 800 mm, a FIN pallet 1200 × 1000 mm. The length is the same, but the FIN pallet is 200 mm wider, carries more goods and is common in Finland and the other Nordic countries. The EUR-size pallet is the standard of Central European logistics.
Dimensions and load capacity
| EUR-size | FIN | |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions | 1200 × 800 × 144 mm | 1200 × 1000 × 144 mm |
| Deck area | 0.96 m² | 1.20 m² |
| Dynamic load capacity* | ≈ 1500 kg | ≈ 1600 kg |
| Static load capacity* | ≈ 4000 kg | ≈ 4800 kg |
| Racking load* | ≈ 1000 kg | ≈ 800 kg |
| Weight* | ≈ 22 kg | ≈ 28 kg |
| Fits in a 13.6 m semi-trailer | 33 pcs | 26 pcs |
* Estimated, Aurelia configurator reference configuration. The final load capacity is confirmed in the quote.
The racking load of the FIN pallet is lower because the rack span equals the pallet width: a 1000 mm span bends the boards more than an 800 mm one.
When to choose a EUR-size pallet
- Goods go to Central European distribution centres or shops.
- Racks are built for a depth of 800 mm.
- You want to fit as many pallets as possible in a truck (33).
- The goods are light or medium weight and evenly distributed.
When to choose a FIN pallet
- The customer is in Finland and their warehouse uses 1000 mm racks.
- The goods are wide: sacks, boards, rolls or building materials.
- You want to move more goods in a single lift.
About trademarks
The names and markings of exchange pallets are trademarks that only licensed manufacturers may use. Aurelia makes pallets with equivalent dimensions and calls them “EUR-size pallets”. If you need a pallet that belongs to an exchange system, mention it in your quote request.
Summary
If you are unsure which to choose, ask your customer how deep their racks are. 800 mm means a EUR-size pallet, 1000 mm a FIN pallet. You can view both in the configurator straight away and reinforce them if needed.
